National U16 Training Camp

Every year, the US Ski and Snowboard in conjunction with divisional ski leaders conducts a National Training Camp targeting age U16 skiers for the purpose of sport education and skier development. The National U16 camp is one of the first steps in the National Sport Development Pipeline. Skiers are selected based on their results at US Junior National Championships. Additionally, each division is afforded a discretionary selection. The Camp is generally held every summer in July and is a full week in length. The location rotates through the country. The camp is self-funded with camp attendees responsible for their airfare and ground costs. 

Participants must be current members of USSA. The camp is coached by Coaches from across the United States in conjunction with US National Team Staff. 

Selection Criteria: 

Skiers would be ranked according to their best two results in the U16 category at Junior National Championships. The top twenty boys and girls would be automatic selections. In addition, each division is afforded an additional discretionary selection.

If there is a decline WE DO NOT then slide down the ranking list for the next available skier. This has been the policy for all previous NU16 Camps. The rationale is that if we were to do this, we will likely have skiers who attending who are not quite ready for this level of camp. Additionally, this would assuredly result in a camp size of 60 athletes which is too large to manage effectively. Given that we will also be adding Discretionary Selections of One Boy and One Girl from each division, we have generally been able to end up with a camp size of 50ish total skiers, given that we always have a few declines from each gender.

EACH DIVISION is afforded the opportunity to also nominate one U16 Boy and one U16 Girl to attend as their discretionary selections. It is up to each division to determine for themselves how they will select these two additional skiers. The Intermountain Division will designate their next highest unselected skier as the discretionary pick.
