Drew Barney Passes Away
/Some Words from Marc Sheppard.
Dear Skiers:
It is with great sadness that I am writing to inform you that Drew Barney, the driving force behind cross country skiing in West Yellowstone for more than 40 years, died in his sleep early Friday, June 2, 2023. Drew was 71.
Drew had many roles in our local skiing community, serving continuously for decades as WYSEF President, Rendezvous Race Director, and Yellowstone Ski Festival Clinic Director, in addition to coaching our local junior ski team. His efforts here, especially in the development of what has now become the Yellowstone Ski Festival, likely influenced the athletic trajectory of nearly every US World Cup and Olympic Nordic Skier and Biathlete in the U.S. since the 1980's. He loved skiing and sharing his passion with all levels of skiers.
Drew was a dear friend and I will miss him deeply.
